Attempting in 2018
I started preparing for the UPSC CSE 2018 in May 2017. That’s when I joined UPSC Pathshala. I’m still in the preparation phase and if everything goes as per plan, I’ll start revising and taking tests by April 2018.
The sessions with my mentor, are held periodically ( ie. 2 days a week ). I found the sessions to be very clear in achieving the portion with appropriate deadlines. The mentor helps me with doubts and also helps me in making notes. She also analyses the positives and negatives of my notes preparation to ensure that these notes will be worthy of reading just before the exam. So, I would say the mentorship has been very helpful so far in finding the pros and cons which is highly impossible with usual classes.
I have taken multiple tests for General studies and CSAT. I can measure my preparation well with the help of these tests. They help me understand my strengths and weaknesses. Then I concentrate on my weaknesses. Whenever the results have been bad, Tasneem has helped me in bettering my approach. She taught me the art of elimination which has helped me tremendously in getting the right answer in the MCQ questions.
The content given in video lectures is gigantic but easy to understand. What I really like about these lectures is that even a layman can understand and benefit from watching these videos. Usually, my study sessions cover the video lecture in parts, as in General Studies, Current Affairs et al. Tasneem makes my study plan such that I do not study just one subject. This way my preparation does not get monotonous.
I am preparing study notes. Whenever I revise the chapter, the notes are very helpful with limited as well as needed content. I found it to be useful. This programme helps with a personal mentor who guides in all the ways towards the preparation and also with the recorded lectures available anytime. I would recommend UPSC Pathshala for those who wish to study sitting in their homes and yet wish to have a thorough preparation for the Civil Services Exam.
